LOCAL POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE TO HOST CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

By MARSHALL SWANSON

The media's constant refrain that police violence represents one of the biggest threat to this country doesn’t match up to the facts. Statistically speaking, police officers place themselves in far more danger than most of us do on a regular basis. But they also contribute more to charity than most of their critics. Case in point: the Police Athletic League's upcoming golf tournament. The Orange County Police Athletic League will be holding a charity golf tournament at the Shingle Creek Golf Course in just a few days.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to children in need around our community, focusing on playgrounds, academics, athletics and instilling leadership into young people. The tournament, to be held on Friday, 16 October, 2020, can start at 8:30 AM, while registration begins at 7 AM. Cigars will also be distributed to players to enjoy at their leisure and Shingle Creek will also provide snacks, lunch is for purchase and drinks, although the hotel remains closed along with the restaurants inside.

The tournament's objective is to raise funds to support and provide athletic, recreational and educational programs for at-risk youngsters by using law enforcement officers as coaches, mentors and role models to influence children to avoid crime, drugs, gangs, violence and truancy. We think that is a noble and laudable goal, and we are excited to support and cover the event as well. I am looking forward to a great match with friends at the Police Athletic League golf tournament. It’s not too late for you to join... so sign up here before booking is completely filled.
